Welcome to Z Knows X’s and O’s, where I, Tzion Cerna, make weekly posts and daily updates on the big news in the sports world. The NFL draft was this past weekend and I’m here to review a few wins, surprises, and major steals in the later rounds. With this year’s draft going in, we knew it was gonna be a very talented draft throughout all positions, offense, and defense. Cam Ward going into the draft was ranked number 1 in the QB position with 4,313 passing yards, a 67.2% completion rate, and a 172 QB rating. With the Titans having some good offensive pieces like Tyler Lockett, Calvin Ridley, and an RB, who in previous years shown he likes to get some routes, in here and there, Tony Pollard, they needed to get a QB that was able to fill this leader position to help open up the passing game that will also give them options to run as well. Another team with a win in the draft was the Las Vegas Raiders with Ashton Jeanty. With Pete Carroll’s hiring and his past success with running backs, we all could see where the Raiders were going this draft with their first-round pick. With a new QB this year in Geno Smith and a lack of a good RB last year the addition of Jeanty will not only hold a threat with the run but also help open up the pocket for Geno to let the ball fly. Now one surprise in the draft was the Dallas Cowboys pick in Tyler Booker an OL out of Alabama where he was team captain. Now at first, this pick seems odd right, why not get a receiver to help out Lamb on the opposite side, well with the loss of a 9x Pro Bowler Zach Martin who was our leader and foundation within the line, Booker as a pick makes total sense. Someone who can lead a team in big moments and who in his words “loves to see the love of the game leave their (opponents) eyes” This pick is a win in my books. Now for some steals within the draft Cam Skattebo who was picked. by the Giants in the 3rd round was going into this draft as the 3rd rated RB in his class it was odd to see him go in the later rounds, but for the Giants, this was a good thing. With the Giants seeing the Cowboys twice a year who are known to have trouble stopping the run and having a winning record of 68-45 against the Giants this is a huge win for them offensively. Another steal in the draft is Shedeur Sanders, going into the draft he was projected top 3 overall but ended up falling to pick 144. Sheduer was a solid QB throughout his time at Jackson State and Colorado University but there were questions about his attitude and professionalism on and off the field, now do I believe Sanders can be a starting QB for many teams, 100% which is why I have him as a steal, but what can make him a bust is what he does of the field, in the locker room, on his own time in the outside world. I guess only time will tell.

Hopefully this draft slide will humble Sanders. Skat going to the G-men hurts being a Cowboys fan but hoping he does well. He is a dog!!!

Additionally, my Cowboys had a good draft despite not choosing a WR in the first few rounds. We stole Revel CB out of East Carolina, he will be a force on the other end of the ball. Watch out gor Blue RB out of Texas, he will surprise some folks.
